O. B. Overton
O. B. Overton, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, July 28, 2013.
O. B., a native of Scotland Neck, was the son of the late Robert L. and Emma Sue Edwards Overton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Gay Overton, a daughter, Patricia Overton Irby, his sister, Jean Ellington, and two brothers, Bennie and Harry Overton.
He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was also in the National Guard for over thirty years. He was a member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, a member of Window’s Son Lodge #519 and also a member of the Eastern Star. O. B. was a charter member of the Davie Volunteer Fire Department.
O. B. is survived by his daughter, Barbara O. Myrick and her husband, David, of Roanoke Rapids; grandsons, David Myrick, II of Louisburg and Chad Myrick and his wife, Beth, of Midlothian, Va.; granddaughter, DeNisa Husser and her husband, Jeff, of Raleigh; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, David III, Cameron, Morgan and Connor.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with CLM Nelson High officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Overton’s service to his country.
